SriLankan Airlines (UL) is a oneworld member based at Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Its network covers South Asia better than almost anyone, with flights to Colombo, the Maldives, and more than a dozen cities in India, plus Southeast and East Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and London. If you are trying to get to the Maldives on miles, SriLankan is one of the best options, and its business class is a comfortable way to do it.

Which miles can you use to book SriLankan Airlines?

Because SriLankan is in oneworld, you can book its award space with partner miles, including:

  • British Airways Avios: distance-based pricing, which works nicely for short hops like Colombo to the Maldives
  • American AAdvantage: good for longer one-ways to South Asia
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
  • Alaska Mileage Plan and Qantas Points
  • SriLankan’s own FlySmiLes program (usually the weakest option unless you credit flights there)

Whichever program you redeem through, they all see the same partner award space. So the first job is finding it.

How to search for award space on SriLankan Airlines:

The easiest place to search SriLankan award space is the British Airways website. BA displays oneworld partner availability, including SriLankan, and you can search without holding any Avios. Once you find space, you can book with whichever partner program you actually have miles in.

How to search using British Airways:

Log in to your Executive Club account on britishairways.com. If you don’t have an account yet, signing up is free and takes a couple of minutes.

Go to Executive Club, then Spending Avios.

Under Choose your Reward, click Book a reward flight.

Enter your trip details:

  • Departure and arrival airports. For SriLankan, think routes touching Colombo (CMB), like CMB-MLE, CMB-SIN, CMB-LHR, or Indian cities
  • Desired departure date
  • Select One way only. It makes mixing partners on the return much easier
  • Preferred cabin class
  • Number of passengers

If you get a prompt about changes to reward flight fare prices, accept the terms and click Continue. If a pop-up asks about adding a stopover, choose No, I want to continue without stopovers.

Note down every SriLankan flight showing award space: flight number, date, and cabin. Use the weekly date strip to scan nearby days. Award space to Colombo and the Maldives often opens in clusters, and peak season (December to March) goes fast.

Now book with the program your miles live in. If it’s Avios, you can finish the booking right there on ba.com. For other programs (AAdvantage, Asia Miles, Mileage Plan, Qantas), check their website first, since most can book SriLankan online now. If the flight doesn’t show, call the program, read the agent the exact flights you found, and they should be able to see and book the same space for you.

Tips before you book

  • The screenshots above show an older BA site design. Menu names have shifted slightly, but the flow (log in, reward flight search, one-way results) is unchanged.
  • BA adds carrier surcharges on some partner awards. For short intra-Asia hops on SriLankan these are usually small, but compare the cash total across programs before transferring points.
  • If BA shows nothing, try searching the same route on qantas.com or aa.com as a cross-check. Partner sites occasionally disagree on the last seat or two.
