Iberia

Iberia (IB) is a oneworld member based at Madrid’s Barajas Airport (MAD). Its long haul aircraft feature fully lie flat seats in business class, making it a great option for getting to Europe on miles. Iberia’s award fees are also refreshingly low: where British Airways loads huge surcharges onto transatlantic awards, Iberia’s fees on its own flights usually run closer to $100 to $200.

Which miles can you use to book Iberia?

Because Iberia is in oneworld, you can book its award space with partner miles, including:

  • Iberia Plus Avios: the sweet spot. Off-peak business class between the US East Coast and Madrid starts around 40,500 Avios each way after Iberia’s 2026 chart update. The old 34,000 rate is gone, but this is still one of the best values to Europe anywhere. You can move Avios freely between British Airways, Iberia, and Qatar accounts
  • British Airways Avios: same points, slightly different award pricing
  • American AAdvantage
  • Alaska Mileage Plan and Cathay Asia Miles

How to search for award space on Iberia:

The easiest place to search is the British Airways website. BA displays oneworld partner availability, including Iberia, and you can search without holding any Avios. Once you find space, book with whichever program your miles live in.

How to search for award space using British Airways:

Step 1

Log in to your Executive Club account on britishairways.com. If you don’t have an account yet, signing up is free and takes a couple of minutes.

Step 1 Login

Step 2

Go to Executive Club, then Spending Avios.

Step 2 Spending Avios

Step 3

Under Choose your Reward, click Book a reward flight.

Step 3 Choose your Reward

Step 4

Enter your trip details:

  • Departure and arrival airports. For Iberia, think routes touching Madrid (MAD), like JFK-MAD, BOS-MAD, MIA-MAD, or onward connections within Spain and Europe
  • Desired departure date
  • Select One way only. It makes mixing partners on the return much easier
  • Preferred cabin class
  • Number of passengers

Then click Get Flights.

Step 4 Book Flights

Step 5

If you get a prompt about changes to reward flight fare prices, accept the terms and click Continue. If a pop-up asks about adding a stopover, choose No, I want to continue without stopovers.

Step 5 Reward Flight Fare

Step 6

Note down every Iberia flight showing award space: flight number, date, and cabin. Use the weekly date strip to scan nearby days. Off-peak dates (roughly mid-January to May and September to mid-December, outside holidays) are where the cheapest business class pricing lives, from around 40,500 Avios.

Step 6 Reward Flight Fare

Step 7

Now book with the program your miles live in. For the cheapest Iberia awards, book through iberia.com with Iberia Plus Avios. For other programs (AAdvantage, Mileage Plan, Asia Miles), check their website first, since most can book Iberia online now. If the flight doesn’t show, call the program and read the agent the exact flights you found. They should be able to see and book the same space for you.

Tips before you book

  • The screenshots above show an older BA site design. Menu names have shifted slightly, but the flow (log in, reward flight search, one-way results) is unchanged.
  • The same flight often prices differently in BA Avios and Iberia Avios. Check both before booking, since moving Avios between the two accounts takes minutes.
  • Iberia releases decent business class space on Madrid routes outside the summer crush. If you are flexible into the off-peak window, this is one of the easiest lie flat seats to Europe you can book with miles.
